WARRINGTON, PA., February 1, 2022
NOBODY LIKES PROJECT SURPRISES, SO WE HIRED SOMEONE TO HELP WITH THAT!
Shaheed A. Smith Geospatial (SAS) is pleased to announce the addition of Nobody likes project surprises, especially unknown utilities in the construction stage.
Shaheed A. Smith Geospatial (SAS) is proud to announce our new Subsurface Utility Locating group led by our newest team member, Morgan Abele, MBA. Morgan brings over 30 years of experience in the Utility Locating Industry, developing the experience, extensive knowledge and foresight in dealing with potential utility conflicts, utility locations, sensitive field conditions, time constraints and budget requirements.
As one of the region’s earliest subsurface utility locating groups (SUL), we help our clients by creating detailed CAD and BIM maps of underground facilities at project sites. Our SUL team locates and identifies visible and underground utilities early in a project’s planning or design process to avoid costly conflicts and dangerous safety hazards. SAS’s thorough SUL and QA/QC process minimizes risk, reduces project costs, construction delays and citizen inconvenience to ensure a safer, more efficient environment for construction personnel and the public.
Defining a standard of care when mapping the underground is paramount. SAS has adopted the internationally-recognized American Standard ASCE 38-02 for all SUL projects. By defining a standard of care, SAS can help clients manage and transfer risks associated with underground facilities:
Our Utility Coordination (UC) team uses SUL and design plans to determine conflicts and evaluate alternatives to resolve conflicts. When possible, SAS’s UC professionals will recommend minor design changes to avoid costly future utility relocations, saving our clients time and money. The UC team will coordinate with each utility owner, coordinate new locations for affected utilities, review relocation plans for conflict resolution and compliance, prepare and review utility agreements/permits, and coordinate construction phasing/sequencing.
We work with DOTs, airports, railroad and transit authorities, developers, government authorities, utility owners and clients throughout the utility coordination process to develop an approach for each unique project type.
Whether you just need to know where the pipe is so you can safely dig a hole, or need CADD & BIM ready 3D utility maps for your entire facility, SAS has the expertise to keep you on schedule and within budget.
For more information about how Subsurface Utility Locating on your project will help you avoid costly conflicts, damages, delays, utility service disruptions, redesigns, claims, injuries, and even lost lives, please contact us.
